Happy New Year & Welcome to 2009!
Dear Reader,
There are so many things I love about the start of a new year. The opportunity to fix all regrets from the previous year, move into this year with enthusiasm, and the amazing feeling that you get, that this year is going to be different.
I have this great exercise I recommend doing at the start of every New Year. So get yourself in a comfy space where you won't be interrupted, grab a pen and paper, and write your goals for this year... as if you were a child with no limits to your imagination.
Then once you have discovered your new life, write down ways you can turn those into a solid goal and how you can build a plan around that to give yourself the best chance at achieving your desired goals for 2009.
Now remember , dream and think big on this. The great Napolean Hill said...
"Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, you will achieve."
Let me share with you some of the rewards I receive from the strategy of goal setting.
First let's define a goal...
[[Salutation]] a goal is a well-defined target that can offer you clarity, direction, motivation and focus. Changing the stagnated and negative aspects of our life is the first step towards creating better outcomes and circumstances.
Goals can be regarded as tools that offer positive rewards:
They help you move your life in a positive direction.
They help you form new habits, or change existing habits.
They help you develop a skill, talent, or ability.
They help you realize a dream and important outcomes.
They improve your performance on a task or activity.
They help you feel a greater sense of control over your life, which ultimately leads to more self-confidence.
But, I'm going to let you in on a little secret [[Salutation]]...
Making your goals happen is not about will power. It's about three important things...
Knowing the importance of making goals... Decision
Knowing how to achieve them... Direction
Knowing how to stick with them!... Drive
Let's look at the importance of making a goal.
Decision requires self-assessment and some brutal personal honesty. It requires willingness to look at the parts of your life that work... and the parts that don't. It also requires patience and know-how to create an organized plan so you can navigate your way to achieving your goals with a sense of joy, adventure and self-challenge!
Direction. You've taken the time and written your goals - but where to next? Goals are useless without knowing how to take action. I liken it to having a map, but no way to get to your destination.
What's your direction?
How are you going to systemically work towards realising your goals?
You need to think about this carefully, as this is what fuels your passion and motivation.
Drive. Some of your goals will seem like an impossible stretch, others like a definite challenge... and some might seem attainable. If you begin your year with an organized and step-by-step plan with timelines and desired outcomes in mind, you set yourself up for awesome success. BUT 'how do you stick with them'?? This is where drive and determination come into play.
[[Salutation]] you may experience internal roadblocks that you label as 'resistance', 'overwhelm' or 'procrastination'. These may be the result of your own programming or simply lack of education or knowledge.
Deep rooted fear of rejection, of failure or just being mediocre - can be paralyzing.
Becoming aware of your emotional limitations is the first step toward overcoming them [[Salutation]]. So start small, set achievable goals and celebrate as you accomplish each step.
Now you might be saying "but I've tried what you are suggesting and 2008 was still frustrating and ended with little progress".
Take heart - help is at hand. If you want to achieve your goals faster than ever before, consider my once a year only "Mentoring for Success" program. Demand for this program was huge in previous years. So you'll want to act quickly!
I look forward to helping you reach your goals.
To Your Success!
